Now that we’re back in the throes of COVID as the Delta variant sweeps across the globe, our long-held hope for a return to normalcy following a substantial uptake in vaccinations has become all but fictitious. Back in March of last year, I was already prepared for the worst–scenes from the United States weren’t particularly inspiring, so I had to anchor much of my daily in what didn’t require exposure to the outside world. Lockdowns that seemed on the cusp of being lifted are now back on the menu, and so is my full embrace of the hermit lifestyle.
My situation is a little bit different than most because I don’t have an actual job, so I have to lock myself in job-like routines lest I succumb to suffocating boredom. Some of that structure is bound together by the very machinations of this blog — having to plan stories and organize interviews is no small feat — but a lot of it came down to further tethering myself to the online world.
Some of the most prominent creators I follow have found themselves as equally subservient to the whims of the ongoing pandemic, thus delegating more time and effort to making content for those craving it–YouTube, Netflix and Twitch especially saw soaring engagement once lockdown regimes were imposed worldwide, so much to the point where video…
